Current Name: De De Barkhurst Balut
AHS Name: De De Barkhurst

I met my husband-to-be decorating floats for the 1964 Rose Parade, something I loved to do each year with my church group. After graduation I went to work for Pacific Telephone in their engineering department and worked my way up the ladder to become an engineer for the company. My husband and I were married in Arcadia in 1966 and we enjoyed 33 years together until his death in 1999.

We lived in Whittier, Temple City, and Alhambra before moving to Napa when he started his career with the airline industry. At that time I became a stay-at-home mother to our two children Christopher and Wendy and helped them with their school activities, sports and various clubs.

While living in Orange County, Ca. and raising our children we thoroughly enjoyed water and snow skiing, flying, traveling and eventually a move to Virginia. Love the four seasons, life has been wonderful for the most part. I play golf, volunteer and live a very busy life. Love to travel and see the world while I am able. After my husbands death I went back to work for a few years, enjoyed the experience but, now I am just enjoying life. I am a soon to be eight year cancer survivor who appreciates all the little things in life. This year my travels will take me to Peru and Ecuador in June and South Africa in October.

I attended Marguerita Elementary school K-3 and then transferred and graduated from Ramona before going to AHS.

The most significant accomplishment in my life was caring for immediate family members and raising my two children. My son and his wife are happily married and they are raising a son and daughter in Virginia. He is an airline pilot and she is a former school teacher. My daughter and her husband are also happily married and they are also raising a son and daughter in Virginia. She is a nurse and her husband is in the tech field at the local hospital.

My family is very important to me, thoroughly enjoy my children and four grandchildren and spending time with them, it's just amazing how quickly time passes.

Looking forward to our reunion and seeing and reminiscing with others from our class.
