I'll be bringing my husband of 43 years, Dennis Andrew Conte, to our class reunion. Dennis is a graduate of Cal State Los Angeles and earned his Masters Degree at the University of Southern California. He was in law enforcement for 48 years, first retiring as a captain in the Los Angeles Police Department and then going on to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department where he retired as a commander. He was also an instructor at Golden West College in Huntington Beach for several years.

I attended Emery Park Elementary School, and after graduating from Alhambra High School, I attended Cal State Los Angeles, Mount St. Mary's, and University of California at Irvine. I earned my teaching credential, my special education credential, and my resource certificate.

I worked in the Los Angeles City School District as a special-education teacher for two years. After marrying Dennis in 1971, we moved to Huntington Beach and I became a stay-at-home until 1985. I worked as a resource teacher at Dwyer Middle School in Huntington Beach until I retired in 2000.

Since retiring, I have devoted much of my time to volunteering at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Huntington Beach. I'm also an avid reader and gardener and love my Zumba and cardio/weight training classes. I've enjoyed and learned a great deal from my Bible study classes for the last five years. Since my husband and children graduated from USC, we've had season passes to the Trojan football games where we enjoy tailgating and cheering on our team.

I have two children: Dennis Anthony Conte, age 42 and Lisa Conte Burnett, age 39. Dennis has one child, Olivia Grace, and is a senior analyst at the Chief Executive's Office in Los Angeles. Lisa is a biotech representative in Michigan where she lives with her husband Chris and three children Parker, Payton, and Andrew.

We've lived in Huntington Beach since we married in 1971, but have traveled extensively throughout the United States. We've also taken several trips to Italy and traveled to Spain, Greece, France, England, Switzerland and Canada. We go to Hawaii every year with our children and grandchildren and visit our daughter and her family in Michigan two to three times a year.

My most vivid memories of high school are going to the drive-in and cruising on Valley Boulevard and Twohey's on Friday nights with my girlfriends. It was even better when we were cruising with Anna Perrino because she had her brother's car that had a record player in it. We thought we were so cool. I remember going to McFarland's Ice Cream Parlor where Peggy Safranski worked. During Lent she'd make me a banana split without the ice cream since I'd given up ice cream for Lent.

I feel I've grown so much since high school due to the lessons my children and grandchildren have taught me, my long and happy marriage, my teaching experience, all the reading I do, studying the holy Bible, and just all my life experiences in general. I can only hope to learn even more and to have continued joy in my life in the coming years.
